I can't believe what's happened. I had a meeting with an agent yesterday who is interested in representing me!!!! I daren't say who cos I don't want to jinx it, but he's a good one too!
I've been so lucky! This has happened so quickly! It's amazing! It was my first submission, through a contact.
He suggested I meet a few other agents before I make up my mind (as if I know any other agents!!! as if they're on my speed dial!!!) So, now I'm in a pickle. It almost feels like I'm being greedy to look around. And because I can't quite believe how fast it's all happening, I want to sign on the dotted line ASAP, before he changes his mind...
HELP!!!! WHAT SHALL I DO???

Brilliant news, Jude. Who's teh agent? I'd ask a few other published authors/those what know about him/her and their credentials.
I'd have his contract checked by a literary contracts lawyer and if it's okay, sign.
Congratulations!
I would take his advice and check out some others. After all, you're in the strong position of already having his offer.
Well done too:))
Check out his client list. If he is good and above board that is probably on his website. Look for books by those authors on Amazon. Check out which publishers have put those books out. Look at sales and reviews.
I'm surprised he is suggesting you go to other agents. They all offer pretty much the same sort of deal. Bear in mind that going to other agents may take time (months).
If you think you want this chap to represent you, you can join the Society of Authors as an Associate Member and they will check out his contract for you. Go to http://www.societyofauthors.net/soa/page_id.php4?pid=6&sid=3&urlsection=Membership
PS - Was it THE AGENT from an earlier post?
Wow, that is so amazing! Am really thrilled for you!
Hi all
Thanks for this advice. His client list is good - deals at hodder and transworld etc. No doubt about his credentials - an editor at one of the big publishers has told me he's well respected. The only thing that's holding me back is curiosity really. Could I get a deal with one of the REALLY big players?
Will keep you posted...
Cheers all

If he's interested, sign. Agents don't take on charity projects. He clearly thinks you are worth representing and clearly thinks he can sell your book (same thing really). Get your foot in the door. Publishing is a fickle world and the chance may never come again.
congrats!!
Just wanted to pop in and say well done. It's lovely to hear news like this. As many people have said at coffee on Friday we all take heart and inspiration from each others successes!
Well done!
Woooooooooooooo hoooooooooooo!
Jude that's EXCELLENT news! So, so, so exciting! If I were you I'd get your synopsis off to some other agents asap and tell the agent that's interested in you that you'll get back to him when you come back from honeymoon (or some other date in the future). He's interested so he's not going to change his mind and he was the one to suggest you approach other agents.
One thing you could do is join the Society of Authors who will check your contract for you (I think you pay a fee to join).
If you want advice from published authors (i.e. not me) you could sign up to www.writewords.org.uk for £35 a year and ask your question there. All the published authors there will give you advice.
BTW is this the novel you subbed to the Miss Write competition? Proof indeed that you don't have to win to get an agent. OOooh you've made me feel so happy and hopeful. Well done you! So happy for you :o)
p.s. Ignore me. If he's legit and he's not charging 50% of royalties and doesn't charge a reading fee SIGN SIGN SIGN!
Hey, well done. Saw your news from Cally's blog. Very exciting news for all of us.

congratulations!! wow! that is great news! not sure what i would do as i would probably be lying in a dark room repeating OMG!! over and over again! :)
Well done, Jude! (I read your news on Cally's blog)
Yes, check the contract, and have someone double check it for you, then, assuming everything is okay, sign it girl!
Congratulations. Just check him out first at preditors and editors to check he's legit, then if you're happy with him and the contract terms, why not sign? Ask him what his immeidate plans are for the book too.
16 comments! Wow! Great to have all this support and advice. He said he'd send me an offer letter out soon, and some notes he'd made about the novel so I'm on the edge of my seat ever time the post comes. Nothing yet! Honestly - I thought I'd got over this after Miss Write but here I am again!
Anyway, will keep you posted guys! Thanks again for all your best wishes!
Jude xx
Fantastic news.....as you say he's legit then sign!
